Over the last four years, DDC has developed technical solutions that are streamlined with the BIM/ISO19650 process.

There were many issues with practical collaboration, communication, and technical resources when the UK Construction Industry transitioned away from BIM Level 2 (based on PAS1192).

Projects that implemented BIM or Revit Coordination workflows were overwhelmed. The root of the problem was that the principles of BIM Level 2 were unsuitable for a professional environment where stakeholders have differing needs and requirements.

In response, DDC Solutions looked at individual professionals and project functions, developing standards in Revit and collaborative processes to enable the projects and teams to achieve BIM as intended.

The solutions we developed proved to be invaluable and multi-faceted. Not only are they innovative, they are flexible. They cover standards and processes from project planning, to technical functions, to KPIs. They can involve accreditations, framework optimisations, and options for an organisation’s expansion of services.

Taking the Credit: R&D Tax Rebates and Investing in Success

For most of us, the mention of any kind of tax is an instant source of stress. We think about Excel spreadsheets, red tape, and towers of paperwork that generally leave us out of pocket.

Some taxes, however, are designed to our advantage!

Following the BIM overhaul, DDC applied for the Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit. This government initiative is designed to financially support companies that invest in innovation. We wanted to be able to invest in developing our resources to a higher standard.

The application took us about 3 hours to complete, including some follow-up calls and emails. We hoped. We waited. The whole process spanned about 35 days, from the initial application to money received.

In the end, we were thrilled to be awarded £24,000 from this scheme. We used the funds to step up our unique approach to custom BIM solutions and the related technologies and standards.
